Is that the River Styx of Equestria? (Yay Percy Jackson!) With a character named Ghost Mare and that dark canoe/gondola going across the water, that's the first thing that came to my mind...

That's quite an amazing little underground town there, looking very much like it grew "organically" from at first a convenient stopping point and trading place and gradually grew over time. Over time no doubt their wealth increased, explaining the expansion and especially with the beautifully crafted bridge in the foreground and all the buildings and high bridges as our view fades into the distance. (I'm sure Venice isn't the only city in the world with that pedigree, though this place obviously is too flooded, though I'm not convinced that's the only reason it was deserted in the first place.)

Speaking of the bridge, perhaps it's a bit too convenient, allowing the fire-eyed bramble demons to surreptitiously follow. Interesting that they'd spring into existence from icy forms when they're clearly made fire and the stuff of autumn. If my interpretation is right then that's some sort of clue which hopefully will make sense in the end. The idea of them being stuck in ice then being released and revived by some sinister wind only makes the place even spookier because the (apparently) bad things were trapped in the end too.

How lucky for the two adventurers that their impressive pony guide can drive the gondola with the swishing of her tail. Then again odd that the water before them there's still liquid water, as if it knew they were coming, and now it's making sure there's no easy going back. (I doubt those two are wearing horseshoes with metal cleats.) Carrot Cake seems quite excited and happy, probably talking non-stop to their impressive new... friend.

Marvelous job bringing *Dax-Rattler's chilling mystery to life so wonderfully.
